FAQs: Communication

Shouldn't I use Social Media to reach my customers since it's free?

Very few things in life or business are truly free, including Social Media. As a business owner, you have esstentially 2 resources: Time and Money. Every decision you make revolves around the trade-offs between these 2 resources. While there is no direct (out-of-pocket) costs associated with getting a presence on many Social Media sites, you'll need to spend time on these sites posting relevant information, responding to customers/friends/posts and generally gaining credibility. Learn more about Social Media before embarking on this as your exclusive strategy. Social Media should be only one-part of your toal Marketing Mix and Communication Strategy. You might want to check our events pages to see when the next Social Media and/or Marketing Strategy classes are being held to get more in depth knowledge. How can I build awareness or get the word out about my new business?

There are numerous ways to get the word out, but largely which media are the most appropriate will depend on the type of business you have and who's your target market. Every communication works providing that:

  • It's directed to the right audience (target market)
  • It's delivered from a reputable source
  • It answers the WIIFM (what's in it for me) question from the consumer's perspective
  • The product or service addresses a need or solves a problem
  • It occurs consistently and repeatedly over time

Above all, remember that consumers are becoming increasingly more discerning, have many more options and can investigate alternatives more easily than ever before. If all this seems overwhelming to you, you may wish to schedule an appointment with one of our experienced advisors by calling 908-269-8475  to schedule a private consultation.
